Sander Kleinenberg - “This Is” - Ultra Records
After having one of the biggest choons at the 2006 WMC, “This Is (fill in the blank)” has since become synonymous with Sander Kleinenberg. For his new CD, instead of Miami or Ibiza, the focus is turned on his DJing. This 2 disc set is packed with stand out tracks like Rossel feat Emma – Dancing With Strangers and BSOD – Game Over. There are also really good mixes from Gui Boratto and Dubfire. One of the reasons I have enjoyed his work over the years is because he is very good at weeding out the junk and giving his fans the best of what’s out there. This CD is no exception.
Yousef - “Underwater Solo” - Underwater Records
This 2 CD set immediately stood out to me because of the way it was mixed. It comes off with a definite live feel like you just walked in the club and someone happen to hit record when you did. For those of you that haven’t had a chance to catch Yousef live yet, expect a very broad musical range. During the mix, we hear minimal tracks such as Claude Von Stroke, really aggressive tracks like Digitalism, big anthems of the moment such as Dubfire as well as beautiful tracks like Joris Voorn. It’s a very eclectic listen that will make you feel like you were there.
Sultan - “Yoshitoshi Montreal” - Yoshitoshi
Over the years, I have seen the name Sultan on countless compilations from Deep Dish to Tiesto, but really took notice a few years ago when the “Flashing For Money” bootleg came out. Since then, Sultan hasn’t slowed down one bit. He is one of the residents at Stereo in Montreal and plays guitars for Nadia Ali’s live shows around the world. His new CD is a smooth mix of progressive gems using vocal, piano and guitar hooks that is very enjoyable. My favorites on the CD are all things that Sultan worked on such as his originals with Ned Shepard, “Aidan” and “Together We Rise.” There are some great mash ups and re-edits that he also does which really puts his personal stamp on this compilation. It’s a great listen from start to finish.
