Ferry Corsten - “Twice In A Blue Moon” - Ultra Records
Over the past 18 months, Dutch superstar DJ, Ferry Corsten has been hard at work on his third artist album. It is a bit of a departure from the electro sound his last album had and focuses more on melodies this time around. That is not to say there isn’t any peak time, party tracks on it. Cuts such as Radio Crash are already being hammered by many of today’s biggest DJ’s. What I like most about the album is the fact that he takes chances. I like that he teams up with a folk rocker, Betsie Larkin, for a really well written song on Made of Love. I like hearing the 80’s influences of We Belong. I also really like the chill atmosphere of Visions of Blue. This is a great album from start to finish that I highly recommend.
Joris Voorn - “Balance 014” - EQ Recordings
Right off the bat, I have to tell you that this compilation is pretty impressive. Somehow Joris Voorn is able to utilize over 100 tracks in just a 2 disc set and make it seem natural and not forced. It is one of those rare CD’s that you can’t fast forward even 8 bars or you might miss something. In many cases, 1 track is actually several tracks from different artists. He might just use a small loop from one, a break from another and so on and so on. This is a very intense journey through some of the best tech house, minimal and electronic music out there. With songs from Radiohead to Tiger Stripes to Dubfire to Robert Babicz, I think it’s safe to say that this one is a winner.
