Steve Lawler - “Viva London” - Renaissance
If you ever needed a soundtrack to piss off your neighbors, this will surely do the trick. Packed with some of the nastiest tracks I have heard lately, the bass lines are sure to rattle the dishes right out of their cabinets. This 2 CD set contains bombs from Dubfire and Nils Noa feat Dave Sinister plus two new Lawler tracks called “Violet” and “Courses For Horses.” A perfect testament to why his Harlem Nights residency has been running so successfully for the past 6 years.
John Digweed - “Transistions Vol. 3” - Thrive
This is without a doubt one of the best CD’s I have heard in quite sometime. With 20 awe-inspiring tracks on one disc, John had to edit every single track specifically for this CD in order for them to fit. The result is outstanding as the energy picks up fast and doesn’t let up until the last chord with brilliant songs from Dusty Kid, Adam Freeland and Sweet N Candy. This CD perfectly captures that late night spirit that is John Digweed.
Layo & Bushwacka! - “Rio” - Global Underground
After being inspired by a beach in Brazil, Layo Paskin and Matthew “Bushwacka!” Benjamin decide to mix up both the new and the old on their latest CD. Disc 1 takes us back to the early days of Layo & Bushwaka! showcasing gems from Francois K and Marshall Jefferson that helped define their distinctive sound. Disc 2 focuses on newer sounds from Tiga and Jesus Loves You as well as some of their own material such as “Long Distance” and “Tabloid.” Another solid release from the folks at GU.
