From Las Vegas to the Red Door

by Tara Johnson

The Boston based international DJ Joe Bermudez will blow the Red Door down this Friday, Feb. 20 from 9.p.m. to 1 a.m. in Portsmouth. Bermudez’s innovative talent has allowed him the opportunity to remix for worldwide celebrities including Britney Spears, Hillary Duff, and Kelly Clarkson. “I recently finished working on ‘Circus’ Britney’s newest single,” said Bermudez.

In 2007, he was named one of the top 20 Best American DJ’s by DJ Times. With a national show on Sirius XM Satellite Radio, Bermudez’s career is rapidly gaining momentum. Recently, he was nominated for the second consecutive year in the Best Radio Mix Show category at the 2009 International Dance Music Awards held in Miami against the likes of Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk and Pete Tong.

Bermudez’s musical journey began more than 12 years ago at a small radio station. Growing up in Lewiston, Maine he never planned to become a DJ. “I actually wanted to be a film director,” until he was accepted into the University of Southern California. “I had four months to kill before school started, so I found a little radio station walked in and demanded they pay me.” At the time, Bermudez had no experience but said, “I was willing to train all week long. Thankfully they saw something they really liked.” He started remixing to get over an ex-girlfriend, “In the beginning I really sucked,” but with his foot in the door Bermudez was on his way.

Recently, Bermudez was at PURE Nightclub in Las Vegas with A-listers Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz. He returned to the area hoping to take some time off from his busy schedule to focus on his music when he ran into an old local friend and was invited to come down to the Red Door.

The Red Door is located at 107 State St. in Portsmouth. For information, visit www.reddoorportsmouth.com, www.myspace.com/joebermudez, or call 373-6827.
