DJs Joe Bermudez and Tonyc bring their music to Laredo

Two out-of-town DJs will treat Laredoans to their music beats during two different events at local nightclubs this week. Tomorrow, XM Satellite Radio host and Billboard reporter Joe Bermudez will return to Laredo for a second performance at F-Bar. “We’re bringing him back because everybody loved him,” said Rey Gonzalez, F-bar manager, adding that Bermudez visited Laredo on December. “We’ve been bringing DJs for a while, but now we’re getting the big names,” Gonzalez said. The manager added that fortunately DJs have been very understanding of the bar’s limited resources. “We don’t charge cover, so they work with us,” Gonzalez said, adding that generally the club will only pay the DJs’ travel expenses. Originally from California, Bermudez, who now resides in Boston, has an impressive list of artists he has produced songs for, including Kelly Clarkson, Britney Spears, Pink, Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson, among many others. Bermudez also has a weekly show on XM’s channel Air 81, on Fridays from midnight to 1 a.m. For more information on DJ Bermudez, visit his official Web site at www.joebermudez.com.

On Thursday, Tonyc, a well known San Antonio radio host and DJ, will perform at Eros. DJ Tonyc, born Tony Villarreal, keeps busy throughout the week with his Power 106.7 radio show and as DJ six nights a week at different San Antonio nightclubs. Tonyc said Laredoans can expect an energetic performance. “Hopefully I will offer them a new experience,” he said, adding he will be playing many music genres, including dance, hip-hop, reggeaton and even country. “It’s a good challenge (performing) for a new crowd,” he added. One of the things that sets him apart from other DJs, Tonyc said, is his ability to work with three turntables at a time. “I have a different style of mixing,” he said. What started as a hobby has become a career, Tonyc said, adding that earning a marketing degree allowed him to promote himself. Practicing about eight hours per day, Tonyc learned to mix under the guidance of DJ Olsen. Originally from Monterrey, Mexico, one of Tonyc’s latest achievements was opening for world renowned DJ Tiesto, who performed in San Antonio in May of last year.
